UKPS members present their data at the UK Extracellular Vesicle Society Annual Meeting
On 7-8th December, UKPS members Dr Rachel Crossland and Ms Kimberly Schell (Newcastle University, UK) attended the UK Society for Extracellular Vesicles (UKEV) annual meeting, where they presented their data on the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in ECP.
This year’s meeting was held at Cambridge University, Fitzwilliam College, and featured two days of EV research, including keynote lectures from Professor Samir EL Andaloussi (Karolinska Institute), Dr Esther Nolte-t Hoen (Utrecht University), Dr Nicole Noren Hooten (NIH) and Professor Yorgo Modis (Cambridge University).
Dr Crossland and Ms Schell presented their ECP data to over 250 delegates, describing their research on ‘Serum Extracellular Vesicle miRNA profiling as an indicator of ECP response for GvHD patients’.
The group reported that in paediatric patients receiving ECP for their GvHD, EVs isolated from the serum demonstrated differences in EV size, microRNA cargo and surface markers in patients who reached partial remission (PR) following ECP, compared to those that reached complete remission (CR). They concluded that the characteristics of circulatory EVs show potential as biomarkers for an indicator of ECP response, as well as shedding light on the mechanisms of ECP action.
